Ask.com and Metro have announced the Best of British Blogs Award for 2007. The BOBB's will recognise the cream of the current blog crop across eight categories: fashion; travel; sport; politics; art and entertainment; technology; youth and the weird and wonderful.
- Standard of content - the quality of the writing (or other content) is, of course, the most important factor
- Design - is there an interesting layout, is it easy and clear to read?
- Regularity of updates – how frequently does the blogger post new material?
- Influence - does this blog set a trend or influence the news?
- Number of links - how many other sites link to the blog?
The panel of judges might find it very helpful to use Annalisa in their deliberations and the following snapshots illustrate how, applying the specified criteria to four well-known British blogs: Random Acts of Reality; The London Review of Breakfasts; Scaryduck ; and Nosemonkey. The Ratings are of course purely personal. Snapshot one leaves the five criteria equally weighted and Nosemonkey gets the verdict. Greater weight to writing and design makes The London Review of Breakfasts the best of this quartet in snapshot 2 and brings Random Act into contention.
