The FAIRTRADE Mark is an independent consumer label which appears on a range of retail and catering products as a guarantee that disadvantaged farmers and workers in the developing world are getting a fair and stable price for their products - one that covers their costs and enables them to support their families and invest in a better future

  • Buy Fair Trade product
  • Buy Branded non FT product
Illustrative and not evidence-based. Claims and beliefs of all parties in the Fair Trade debate  need to be critically examined in producing these Ratings. In both examples slides in gallery below  the price of the FT product is assumed to be higher. But in other cases it will be lower, especially against designer brands.
The Weightings for Product Quality and Cheapness are high in slide 1, but all 4 attributes are weighted equally in slide 2
As implied by the Ratings and Weightings. With equal weights the FT product wins with these ratings, but with increased weight to Product Quality and Cheapness this is reversed
The Fairtrade Foundation is the independent body in the UK that awards the FAIRTRADE Mark to products which meet international standards set by the certification body Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO). You can find out more about the Foundation's work at www.fairtrade.org.uk .
