During a storm on her first visit to the surface at the age of 15 the Little Mermaid of Hans Christian Andersen's famous tale rescued a handsome young prince from drowning and instantly fell in love with him. From this day she yearned to return permanently to the land above, become human and to marry the prince. But the only way to achieve this was to accept the deal offered by the Sea Witch, whereby in return for being turned into a human being with legs she would lose her beautiful voice, suffer severe pain with every step she took during the rest of her life and forego the chance of ever returning to her sea family. On the other hand, if the Prince married her she would gain an immortal soul as well as spending her life with him. However, if he married someone else she would immediately become foam on the surface of the sea - unless she were able to kill him on his wedding night, in which case she would be able to return to her former sea life. Eight outcomes can be identified, framed positively: - Living with the Prince
- Being alive to 65
- Being alive from 66-300
- Having a voice for rest of life
- Not in perpetual pain from moving for rest of life
- Being in happy family for rest of life
- Free of guilt from murdering Prince for rest of life
- Immortal soul
Three options can be identified: - Accept Sea Witch deal and willing to kill Prince if he is about to marry someone else
- Accept Sea Witch deal but not willing to kill Prince if he is about to marry someone else
- Reject Sea Witch deal
