Should you vote? What is the best option for electors in a First Past the Post, Single Member Constituency parliamentary system? Imagine an election is coming up in a few days time and you are talking with 100 people who think and feel very much like yourself and live in the same constituency. You all know the results from the last election (and hence to what extent it is a 'safe seat' or a 'marginal'. You also know what the national polls are saying. Options Attributes- Affect election result
- Express attitude to current parties/politicians/candidates
- Support current democratic process / do democratic duty
- Bother involved in voting
Ratings and WeightingsThe two voters illustrated arrive at different conclusions about voting largely because of the different weights they give to Supporting the current democratic process and Expressing negative attitudes about current politics/politicians.) For discussionShould a democratic system provide a way to Express negative attitudes by Voting rather than Not Voting (other than by spoiling the ballot paper, which is an option we have excluded here?)
